We will be in the media center for the next three days (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday).
If you son/daughter is absent, they will need to make up the work they missed independently. All of the work can be accessed on the class wiki (the link is on the right hand side of this blog).

Students have homework tonight, they should have received a copy in class but just in case they’ve lost it, I’ve provided a copy of both quizzes on the GoogleCalendar. Tomorrow we will be taking a break from the notes and will be working on Main Idea/Supporting Details utilizing Chapter 2, Sections 1 and 2 Content. I will be pulling students to work in small group all day long.
I try to work small group with students in every chapter/unit we cover.

Good Afternoon All!
The daily agenda has been posted to GoogleCalendar for the entire week. I will post the notes for Chapter 2 on Wednesday.
On a side note: I know everyone has a busy schedule, but many of you have younger children. Tonight at Barnes & Noble Peter Yarrow (from Peter, Paul, and Mary) will be performing this evening at 7:00. Yarrow is most notably known for “Puff the Magic Dragon.”
Ms. Lin Benevides (the Community Relations Manager) hosts children’s and adult authors frequently at our local B&N.
Hopefully I’ll see some of you there!

One more full week of school before we end the first successful nine weeks of the school year! Congratulations students and parents, you’re nearly 25% of the way through the school year!
The GoogleCalendar is not yet updated for Monday and Tuesday because I am still preparing the activity. If you remember, last week students engaged in map-making, journal writing, and Cuneiform writing from Mesopotamia. This week students will be using secondary sources provided to them within the classroom to compare/contrast two civilizations from Ancient Mesopotamia. I will included downloadable copies of each secondary source provided within the classroom.
**Please note:** your child will be using ALL FIFTEEN sources. They are being given a CHOICE of which TWO civilizations they want to compare/contrast AND are being given the CHOICE of which secondary source they wish to use for their foldable venn-diagram.
I hope to have the GoogleCalendar updated for tomorrow and Tuesday’s activity by tonight!

Friday and Monday students spent class time working on creating maps of Ancient Mesopotamia. Many students will be receiving their map back as they did not follow directions. The expectations (how it will be graded) for the map were provided on the board so students knew what I expected them to do. If your child received their map back today or receives it tomorrow, these are the expectations in order to receive full credit:
Each map should have the following
1-The geography of Mesopotamia (rivers, mountains, lakes, fertile
areas, etc
2-Cities are included
3-More than one map was used to create the students’ map
4-NOTHING WAS TRACED
Most importantly, students need to realize that they are supposed to be creating a map of Mesopotamia, therefore the majority of the map should be on Mesopotamia. One of the biggest issues I’ve noticed is students are too busy illustrating other regions next to Mesopotamia so their map of Mesopotamia itself is only a small portion of the entire map–rather than the main concentration.
I am collecting these maps again on Friday…as this is a second chance, I will not accept it after Friday.
Finally, students were taught the expectations for the History Fair this year. I will be posting more information by Friday for all to read. Please wait until then to email me any questions you might have in case the handout answers them for you!
Finally, tomorrow’s agenda has already been posted
